Report Updated Report February 15, 2008

Water temps are ranging from 49-55. The lake is at normal levels but should rise above normal levels after the weekend rain.
Bass are hitting a variety of lures right now such as traps and spinnerbaits, stick with your light or shad colors. These are mainly being used in or over the grass flats. Jigs and soft plastics in the grass and on the cypress are catching some decent bass also. Brown and Tennessee Shad colored crankbaits on the cypress trees in 3-6 ft. of water are catching bass also.
Crappie are fair right now. Shiners and 1/16 oz. jigs in most any color combo will catch Crappie from around the edges of the grass and pads on the channel drops. Try fishing the laydowns on the edges of the steeper drops in the river also.
We have also been catching some big numbers of huge white bass in the Big Cypress channel...when they are up schooling most any topwater or trap will work and when down try using tailspinners, spoons, and traps hopped off the bo ttom.

Richard Chambers Reservoir Fishing Report Updated November 9, 2008

RICHLAND CHAMBERS FISHING REPORT

November is normally a VERY GOOD month on RC as the water temp
stays in the high 60's and the bite is often very aggressive! The lake level
is about 3' below normal, the Fall has finally arrived and it's time to catch some BIG fish!

In November, we will focus all our attention on the White Bass and Hybrid
Stripers as the fish are getting in that last bit of aggressive
feeding and fattening up for their late Winter/early Spring Spawn.

The best locations will be the Windsock Point, the Hwy 309 Flats
and the Old Hwy 287 Roadbed. Fish will be hugging the bottom most
days and a Silver or Chartruse Glitter Slab worked slowly off the
bottom will produce good quantities as well as quality fish. Fish
the 30' water and deeper. However, always keep your eyes open for
the Gulls as they will save you a lot of time finding the fish. The Gulls
will be searching for the Shad being pushed up to the surface by
the feeding fish. I've changed my line to 14 lb. test and stronger
as we're continuing to catch LARGER Hybrid Stripers. Some are in
the 5 lb. size and larger, and they are VERY VERY Strong. Be sure
and loosen the drag on your reel as the first few seconds of a
Hybrid strike is when you will often loose or break off the fish.
The largest Hybrid I've ever had caught by a Customer (and the
third largest ever caught on RC) was a 15.51 lb. fish caught on
December 27th a couple of years ago. Don't let the cool weather
keep you from trying to catch the BIG ONE!

Several bits of info you may find useful are:

Many of you have requested to buy some of the Slabs I use. Ron
Ratley with RSR Lures is the Manufacturer of Glitter Slabs and will
be able to supply as many of the Slabs as anyone may want. He can
be reached at 866-650-6811. Check out his Website for sizes and
types of Slabs at www.rsrlures.com . As many of you know, I use the
Silver and Chartuse Glitter in the Shad and Minnow shapes. You can
also find them at Fisherman's Point Marina, Edward's Hardware and Gander
Mtn.

If you need a Gift Certificate for someone special during the
Holidays, just give us a call at 903-389-4117.

Most importantly, spend some time with the Family during this
wonderful time of the year! Have a great Thanksgiving and
Holiday Season!

Mattern Guide Service on Sam Rayburn & Palestine
Hello Everybody,

ISAIAH 58: Verses 9:

Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; Thou shalt cry, and He shall say. Here am I. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity.

SAM RAYBURN;

Well it is good to see the killer heat wave over for now. Bass were really slow for about 3 weeks. But now with scattered storms and a little cooler weather from 103 to 90's is cooler to me.

The Bite has been really great. 20-25 Bass per day is common now and the key word is Shad.

Water has been slightly stained on most of the Lake with water temps running about 82-84 degrees. Lots of grass beds everywhere with lots of Bass.

You can really pick your favorite pattern and catch right now. Bass will hit frogs in the thick stuff or spinnerbaits and rattle traps in shad patterns. Also Crankbaits in shad patterns will catch. The shallow bite has been good but some real Giants have been caught 12-15 ft. deep on DD22's and Carolina rigs.

Texas rigged 10 inch worms worked in the pockets produced a 24 lb. sack last saturday in 6-10 ft. grass.

Have a good time and if you do not know the Lake and need a Guide and want to learn some patterns call me at 903-478-2633 or 903-724-1203 or E-mail me at my new E-mail donmat@windstream.net. You can also go to my web-page which is matternguideservice.fghp.com.
