Not a whole lot has changed as far as the fishing on Reelfoot Lake.
The water levels remain very very low but some good rains are in the forcast the next few days. The lake is still some 18 or so inches below pool right now.
The Crappie bite is picking up and this is due to the water temps cooling down. The Lower Blue Basin area still is producing the best overall bite. Jigs best.
Bass remain somewhat slow but in a recent Strike King Lure Company Buddy Bass Tournament, I was one of 4 boat to be able to bring the 5 bass limit to the scales finihing 4th place with 14 pounds 14 ounces. Everyone of our bass were around 3 pounds each. Caught them on a Strike KIng Premier Plus 3/8 oz Spinnerbait in White. 1st plaxce was 16 pounds even so the top 4 places werew within 1 pound of each other.

Reelfoot Lake water level is low, very low. I
would say as low as it was this time last year or close.
Now for the fishing, the Crappie bite has begun
to pick up in the Lower Blue Basin area of the lake which is the
southern part of Reelfoot.
As for the Bass, well a little slow and mostly
due to the low water conditions. I would be willing to say that the
oxygen level is rather low and until we get rainfall ( .88 for September
) the lake will not change.
If you plan to fish or duck hunt on Reelfoot
Lake in the fall and winter months, please have a push pole with you as
well as a cell phone for communications purposes.
Good luck and navigate slowly around Reelfoot at
this time.
Reelfoot Lake Report for August 22, 2008
The Water level at Reelfoot has dropped several inches over the summer,
not as much as this time last year when the lake was at or near a all
time record low water level. The lake is now some 12 to 15 inches below
normal for this time of year. We are getting rain now and hope the what
is left of Tropical Storm Faye will come and park over our area for a
few inches of much needed rainfall.
The Crappie and Bass bites have held up rather well for this time of
year at Reelfoot Lake. Not many folks out fishing but the ones that are
have been catching a few Bass and Crappie.
The Crappie are being caught in the deepest waters of Reelfoot which is
on the Lower Blue Basin area or the south end of the lake fishing 8 ft
to 12 ft deep using jigs.
As for the Bass bite, most of the reports have been in the mid morning
hours using top water baits and spinnerbaits around lilly pads. This is
areas where baitfish are present and then Bass are there to.
