Shabbona Lake Fishing Report
Updated June 23, 2008
This is the best time of the year to fish and I have been having a great time out on Shabbona. I have been out on the water almost every day for the past month and have no plans to break this streak.
I had a great time last weekend catching all kinds of crappies. Crappie fishing was great over the campground cribs and the deeper brushpiles. Crappies ranged in size from 7 - 10.5 inches long with most of them in the 7 - 8 inch range. Use Mini Mites or minnows for best results.
Bass fishing was a bit tough during the Bass open competition last weekend. First place honors went to Tyler Fulk who caught a 3.75 pound largemouth.
Bass fishing has since improved with many of them being picked up on the weedlines and around the standing timber. I caught some nice bass using leeches in the deep trees last Sunday while walleye fishing.
Walleye fishing has been fair with a few of them being picked up in the deep trees and over the rock piles using leeches.
